Prepared Parenting Classes

2018-2019 Prepared Parenting Class Schedule – St. Peter’s Regional Medical Center’s Education Center

St. Peter’s Health offers parents FREE classes taught by a variety of specialists and professionals to help parents with all preparations, expectations and details surrounding a new baby. All the classes are offered to moms and their partners (please no kids) – and no registration necessary!*

Come to one class or to all classes for FREE!  Classes are held four times per year in SPH Education Center. We encourage bringing water and snacks to each class. Unable to make the classes?  Please schedule an appointment with the specialists using the numbers under the classes and note all insurance/co-payment may apply to services for individual appointments.  The class schedule for remainder of 2019 will be published here after January 1, 2019. 

*Infant CPR/Choking Rescue requires registration at under Parenting classes


 Pregnancy and Postpartum Nutrition -- This 1.5 hour class is taught by a Registered Dietitian to help moms both prenatally and postpartum understand proper nutrition, along with prevention and management of gestational diabetes.*

Childbirth Education  -- This 2-part class held over two weeks is taught by SPH Women and Children’s nurses and covers a variety of labor topics including: signs and symptoms of labor, breathing and relaxation skills, pain management options, coach’s role during labor and C-sections.  

Childbirth Class 1+ 2 – Thursdays – 6 to 8:30PM – August 9+16, October 11+18, February 7+21


WAC Unit Tour -- This tour of the Women's and Children's Unit at St. Peter's Health is led by unit staff.  WAC includes nine labor and delivery/recovery/postpartum/newborn (LDRPN) suites. Each suite features a birthing bed, which allows mom to transition from labor to delivery to recovery in the same room. Please meet in the Education Center 10 minutes before the tour.

Breastfeeding Basics -- This 2-hour class is led by our own SPH Family Nurse Practitioner and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).  She discusses the benefits of breast milk, the anatomy and physiology of lactation, the elements that promote successful feedings, determining adequate milk intake and how to return to work while breastfeeding.*

Prenatal Activity + Postpartum Recovery

Join SPH's very own Women's Health Physical Therapist for a 1.5 hour class to discuss useful tips and education to remedy discomforts and guard against pain and dysfunction during and after pregnancy. Topics include body mechanics with breastfeeding, exercise guidelines, pain management during labor, post C-section or natural birth exercises, Kegel and pelvic floor education, along with critical tips in preventing and treating injuries that come along with normal daily activities during and after pregnancy. This class is designed for those who've just learned their pregnant, those who are in 2nd or 3rd trimesters, and those who are postpartum.*

Child Car Seat Safety

This 1.5-hour class is led by a certified child passenger safety technician. This instruction helps parents to learn the basics of choosing the right seat for your child and your budget; proper seat installation and specifically which position to use, angle and how to secure; and appropriately fitting your child to the seat as it is more complex that the height, weight and age listed on the packaging.  Individual car seat installation NOT part of class.*

Infant CPR/Choking CPR

Nothing is more frightening than having an unresponsive tiny infant.   Although you’ll hope to never have to use CPR on an infant, it’s important to learn the basics of what to do.  Join our very own certified American Heart Association instructors for a class aimed at giving you what you need to confidently deal with an unwanted situation.  This class does NOT provide certification and all attendees must register for the Prepared Parenting CPR class as space is limited.  Please visit*
