St. Peter’s Health registered nurses Dave Ellis and Jessica Mahr received DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nurses. DAISY awardees are selected quarterly from nominations submitted by St. Peter's patients and family members.

Dave Ellis is a registered nurse on our Complex Care team, a team of multi-disciplinary professionals who help patients navigate complex medical conditions and situations. The family member of a patient who nominated Ellis noted his empathy and willingness to stay late to help their family. Ellis has been a member of the St. Peter’s family since 2008.

Jessica Mahr is a registered nurse on the Medical Floor and has been with St. Peter’s Health since 2019.  The patient who nominated Mahr was humbled by her care. In his nomination letter, he stated, “my stay at St. Pete’s was outstanding considering the circumstances and a very humble and ultra-professional like Nurse Mahr, just adds another level of professionalism and pride within the St. Pete’s organization.”

The DAISY Award was established to honor the super-human work nurses do to care for patients and families every day. The award is presented in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives. St. Peter’s Health administration and staff select the winner from those nominated. Recipients receive a certificate and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, which is hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
