St. Peter’s Health Surgical/Oncology Nurse Justin Moore, RN and Hospice Nurse Mickie Simonson, RN, received DAISY Awards for exceptional nurses. DAISY Awardees are selected quarterly from nominations submitted by St. Peter’s patients, families and colleagues.
As a nurse on the Surgical/Oncology floor, Moore interacts with patients recovering from surgery on a regular basis. The patient who nominated him wanted to thank Moore for his compassion during a distressing situation following surgery. “Justin helped me through some of my darkest days. He not only took great care of my body, but he also took great care of me! He offered encouragement, reassurance, compassion and great humor during our interactions.”
The family member who nominated Simonson wanted to recognize her for the extraordinary care she gave her husband. “Beyond providing equipment that would help me care for my husband and help me sleep, Mickie was a true teacher. She walked me through the difficult dos and don’ts for when my husband passed away, removing the fear of the unknown during my time of grief. She didn’t just do her job; she cared for our souls.”
