Obtaining Patient Condition Reports
Hospitals are responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patients' information.  The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulates privacy standards for health care information.  HIPAA regulations specify the purposes for which information may and may not be released with authorization from the patient.  In most cases. St. Peter's Hospital will release a condition report:  undetermined, good, fair, serious, critical or deceased.  Media queries must specifically identify the patient by first and last name.
