St. Peter’s Health Foundation Board Approves $25,000 to Support New Cancer Support Community Montana Chapter in Helena

May 12, 2025

St. Peter’s Health Foundation has approved a $25,000 grant to support the establishment of a new Cancer Support Community Montana (CSCMT) chapter in Helena, expanding access to support for local cancer patients and their families. The grant was unanimously approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors on September 17, 2024 and will be funded through the William and Pauline Allen Cancer Endowment Fund.

A ceremonial check presentation was recently held with representatives from both organizations. Pictured are Nate McCarthy, Chair of the St. Peter’s Health Foundation Board; Dr. Shelly Harkins, President of the Regional Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer; Kari Koehler, Chief Nursing Officer; Stephen Mason, Executive Vice President of the St. Peter’s Health Foundation; and Katie Barbee, Cancer Care Manager alongside CSCMT’s Development Manager Kashia Herring and several community advocates - Jena Sabatini, Theresa Vonada, Erin Karlin.

CSCMT leaders met with St. Peter’s Health executives and Cancer Care providers earlier this year to outline their plans for launching a Helena chapter, with the goal of expanding no-cost emotional and social support services such as support groups, counseling and health and wellness programs. The $25,000 in annual operating support from the St. Peter’s Health Foundation will help lay the groundwork for this new presence in Helena.

This gift was made possible through the William and Pauline Allen Cancer Endowment Fund, established to support the excellence of cancer treatment services at St. Peter’s Health. It was Pauline Allen’s wish that her Trust be used to strengthen and sustain exceptional cancer care for the Helena community.
