St. Peter’s Health is launching its annual 30-Day Sugar Challenge on January 5, inviting community members to reset their relationship with sugar and kick off the new year with healthier habits. The average American consumes far more added sugar than recommended, contributing to chronic health conditions. The free challenge encourages participants to eliminate added sugars for the first 21 days, followed by mindful reintroduction within recommended limits during the final nine days. The goal is to help participants better understand how sugar affects energy, sleep, and overall health — while building sustainable habits. Participants in past challenges often report improved energy, clearer thinking, better sleep, and increased awareness of hidden sugars in everyday foods.
“We learned quickly how much added sugar was in a slice of bread or salad dressing from the store. We took what we learned and used it throughout the year to be more conscious about our food selections." – 2021 Sugar Challenge Participant
