The Hummingbird® Tympanostomy Tube System (TTS) is a breakthrough technology that enables ENT surgeons to perform pediatric ear tube placement in the comfort of their office without general anesthesia. Hummingbird eliminates many challenging aspects associated with traditional ear tube surgery while delivering safe and effective outcomes for children.

Thousands of children across the U.S. have been successfully treated using the Hummingbird device. The Hummingbird is FDA-cleared and can be used for children 6 months and older.

The Hummingbird device only requires a topical numbing agent on the ear drum—no anesthesia is involved.

Just before the Hummingbird procedure, your child will be swaddled to limit movement and allow the physician to safely perform the procedure. Your child’s care team will gently cradle your child’s head during wax removal and ear tube placement.

The Hummingbird procedure is highly efficient and ear tube placement is completed in a matter of minutes. Because it doesn’t take place in an operating room, parents can be there for the entire procedure.

Your child may return to normal activities following the Hummingbird procedure, including eating.

On average, Hummingbird ear tubes stay in place for 11 months before falling out on their own, which is consistent with averages associated with traditional ear tube surgery.
